Cactus McCoy is the main protagonist in the games Cactus McCoy and the Curse of Thorns and Cactus McCoy 2: The Ruins of Calavera. He is the central character of the Cactus McCoy series.

Flipdeck Info[]

  • Hometown: Sunset Gulch
  • Loves: Treasure
  • Hates: Spiders
  • Occupation: Treasure Hunter

For many years Cactus McCoy was a treasure hunter for hire. His biggest client was Hex Hatfield, for whom McCoy collected numerous treasures. This all changed when McCoy fell victim to the Curse of Thorns which turned him into a walking, gunslinging cactus. Thorns aside, Cactus McCoy still can’t shake his wealth-hunting ways, and is always on the lookout for hidden treasure.

Appearance[]

Cactus McCoy wears a black brimmed hat with a brown stripe and thorns. He wears a yellow striped shirt, black pants and brown shoes. He also wears a red necktie and cape. His appearance includes brown eyes, brown hair, green skin, and a prickly body. Before turning into a cactus, McCoy had fair skin, short brown hair, and stubble.

Personality[]

Cactus McCoy, a (usually) quiet man, was a treasure hunter before he was turned into a cactus. He was a brave man, apparently, as he accepted the job his boss, Hex Hatfield, gives him, and honorable, as he chose to rescue Ella Windstorm in the second game when she was kidnapped by her enemy Malana Mire after the former saved his life.

It can be said he is very adaptable or resourceful, as he can use any sort of object as a weapon, even if the purpose of the object is not to be a weapon at all. He even has examples of using animals as weapons! (examples: the Crocodile and the Rattlesnake weapons).

It can also be said that he is persistent, as despite becoming a walking cactus and getting shocked, McCoy overcomes his surprise and goes to his adventure to put the Thorned Emerald back to its place.

Skills[]

  • High Endurance: McCoy is strong enough to at least endure waves of Enemigos to meet his goals of returning the Thorned Emerald or rescuing his friend Ella. He is also strong enough to withstand punches from Dumbbell (who can break blocks with his bare hands) and has defeated Malana Mire, who herself has to be taken down twice because of her high endurance.
  • High Dexterity and Agility: Asides from his precision in using swinging, throwing and whipping weapons, McCoy can also hold onto barrel rockets and birds to fly or glide, ladder spears and normal ladders to climb, and rope bridges and zip-lines to travel without tiring.
  • Resourceful Pragmatism/Adaptability: Another of McCoy's key traits, he has been known to use anything at his disposal to good use and is able to use local and unfamiliar surroundings against his enemies, which includes local fauna, flora, and man made objects.
  • High Intelligence: McCoy can use any weapons, usually salvaged from the hands of fallen enemigos. This includes Marksmanship (shooting and throwing weapons) and knowledge of most firearms, the ability to "safely" control ordinance weapons and explosives.
  • Hand-to-hand Combat: On the other hand, McCoy is easily able to incapacitate enimegos with or without the need of punching enhancements by the simple one two.
  • Super Strength: McCoy can lift and throw things that are obviously a lot heavier than they appear, such as Idol Statues, Anchors, and Iron Crates. He can also practically use Chainsaws, Buzzsaws, Power Drills, and even a fully-grown Crocodile as weapons.

Trivia[]

  • The McCoy and Hatfield names refer to a feud that took place between the Hatfield and McCoy families in the mid-1800s in the US.
  • McCoy's real first name is unknown. Hex Hatfield calls him "Cactus" McCoy following his transformation into a cactus.
  • The term "coy" in McCoy's surname means "shy".
  • Although he is the main character of the series, McCoy has no lines, similar to Crash from the Crash Bandicoot series. All other game characters have at least one dialogue.
  • Cactus McCoy is Tony's favorite non-gameria character.[1]
  • According to their Flipdeck, The Hexagoons hate Cactus McCoy.
    • It is likely due to the fact that he defeated Hex Hatfield, their ideal figure.
